A guide to insulating your home – cavity wall, floor, and loft insulation
This autumn Cosy Homes Oxfordshire held a series of fortnightly online webinars exploring topics relating to home retrofit and energy efficiency. In this final webinar of the series we explored a common retrofit measure: insulation.
Paola Sassi, experienced architect and one of our Cosy Homes Oxfordshire expert Retrofit Coordinators led the webinar. She explained how insulation works and different kinds of material which can be used. She also explained which kind of homes need insulation, and the various types of floor, roof, and wall insulation – as well as funding available to support homeowners with installing insulation.
We were also joined by Tim Lunel who is a homeowner in Hook Norton who has recently has his home retrofitted, including substantial improvements to insulation, through Cosy Homes Oxfordshire. He shared his experience: why insulation was needed in his home, what installation was like, and how it has improved the warmth and comfort of his home – as well as the positive side effect of improving sound insulation.
Questions were taken throughout, and our speakers also stayed on at the end of the webinar for more in-depth discussions with a few audience members who wanted advice on what was possible for their homes.
