UK will trial automatic energy bill switching system in 2024
23 July 2021
The UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has said that an automatic switching system for energy tariffs will be trialled in 2024 – wherein homeowners will be automatically moved to a cheaper deal for energy. The scheme is intended to combat the ‘loyalty penalty’ where long-term customers end up paying the most expensive tariffs.
Ministers have also said they hope that this scheme will result in more consumers using renewable energy, suggesting green tariffs may be prioritised.
