Building greener homes now could save families more than £400 a year in energy bills, says Labour

Research released by the Labour Party claims that building greener homes with energy efficiency measures now, could save families more than £400 a year in energy bills in the future.
They say that building greener homes with energy efficiency measures could save homeowners a total of £5bn, as it costs less to build a new energy-efficient home than to retrofit an existing home.
The Future Homes Standard set by the government to “ensure that new build homes are future-proofed with low-carbon heating and high levels of energy efficiency”, will not come into force in 2025, whereas Labour spokespeople say that regulation should come into force now to help fight the climate crisis.
“It is insanity that we are building homes today that will need to be expensively retrofitted down the line.” – Lucy Powell, Shadow Housing Secretary
