Nearly half of the UK’s ‘heat pump ready’ homes are interested in getting one

14 April 2022

According to a new survey by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) almost half of all ‘heat pump ready homes’ are interested in installing a heat pump.

That is equivalent to around seven million homes.

The poll of 2,000 people also shows less than a third see increasing the UK’s domestic supply of gas through expanded drilling and fracking as the solution.

Nearly 33% of respondents also said they would be more likely to get an electric heat pump to help the UK insulate from Russia’s interference in the gas market.

The UK Government has previously stated it has a target to install 600,000 heat pumps every year by 2028.

Recent low carbon heating funding for homeowners, known as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, could provide heat pumps for around 90,000 homes, with £450 million allocated from 2022 to 2025.

“More gas won’t bring down the energy bills of those struggling to pay, but insulation can and does so permanently.”
