UK Green Building Council releases framework to help local authorities deliver retrofit

14 December 2021

The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) has published the new ‘Build Upon’ framework designed to help local authorities reach net zero targets through retrofit and renovation schemes.

The document sets out guidance for improving energy efficiency, tackling energy poverty and self-generating clean energy through new technology.

UKGBC is encouraging local authorities to adopt a new standardised list of environmental, social and economic indicators that can help assess progress to climate targets and resilience.

“Building renovation can deliver a triple win for local communities – not only can it deliver significant carbon reductions, but it can also boost local economies through job creation as well as deliver health and wellbeing benefits through improving the quality of our homes – making them warmer, more comfortable and cheaper to run.”
