National shortage of construction materials is getting worse

The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has reported that the national shortage of construction materials is getting worse.
With the UK opening up after a series of lockdowns, construction activity is at the highest rate in the past seven years. But, this heightened demand is causing shortages in materials, particularly cement and timber.
The Construction Leadership Council also highlights their concern that this will start to impact Small and Medium Enterprise sized builder financially, which do not have the advance buying abilities of larger organisations. With the shortage anticipated to last at least for the next six months, this is concerning many in the industry – and of course impacts the home retrofit sector too.
