Welsh housing estate slash bills by generating own energy
Residents in the Ogwen Valley in Gwynedd are cutting down on their energy bills by up to 25% through a local hydro-power scheme.
Since 2016, people from Bethesda joined an energy club called Energy Local, which harnesses the power of clean and green energy.
“People are quite relieved about the prices they’re paying, that they have got a better deal.”
Dr Mary Gillie (speaking to BBC News)
Bills are kept low if the residents don’t use more power than the turbine produces, being charged just under 8p per kWh at night time and 16.5p per kWh between 4PM and 8PM.
Their energy prices are lowered because the power is used locally.
