We don’t sell heat pumps… but these homeowners might.
We actually love heat pumps. We believe they’re key to tackling climate change and reducing energy costs. But don’t worry – we’re not here to sell you one. Heat pumps are amazing, but they’re just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to transforming your home into an energy-efficient, comfortable haven.
Think of it like this: installing a heat pump alone isn’t enough to unlock all the benefits. Sure, it’ll help with heating and cooling, but if your home’s poorly insulated or lacks proper ventilation, you’re missing the bigger picture. That’s where we come in. We don’t just look at one solution – we guide you through everything, from insulation to lighting and ventilation, ensuring that all the pieces work together to make your home truly efficient and cosy.
For Heat Pump Week 2024, we celebrated a major global achievement: over 190 million heat pumps installed worldwide!* That’s millions of homes and businesses benefitting from efficient, low-carbon heating. And yet, in the UK, we’re still dragging our feet. We’ve only installed 220,000 heat pumps as of 2023, while France* has over 5 million and is adding a million more every year. If we want to hit our 50% net zero target by 2030, we need to step it up – and fast.
Is installing a heat pump a good choice?
With over 190 million installations around the world, the benefits are clear. Heat pumps use up to three times less energy than traditional gas boilers, meaning they lower your bills and reduce carbon emissions.
They also can double up as air conditioners in summer and improve indoor air quality, since they don’t burn fossil fuels. And while the upfront cost is higher, the long-term savings – along with available grants – make them a smart, future-proof investment.
But remember, heat pumps are just part of the equation. For the best results, you need to adopt a whole-house approach!
Our heat pump success stories
As we’ve said, we don’t sell heat pumps… but these proud homeowners just might. Our customers are proof that heat pumps, as part of a wider plan, can make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient. Don’t just take our word for it – hear it from them:
David in Abingdon
“I’ve had my heat pump for a year now, and I’m really happy with it. Since our home is well insulated and we have solar panels, we removed the gas meter, saving £150 a year.
With a solar battery and off-peak electricity, our energy bills have halved – now around £800 a year for a four-bed house. The pump is quiet and reliable, and while the lower heat from larger radiators took some getting used to, the rooms warm up nicely and can be controlled via the Hive app.”
Robin and Mary in Headington, Oxford
“Our new heat pump, PV panels, and enhanced insulation have completely transformed our quality of life at home. We stay cosy throughout winter with the thermostat set to just 17°C. We’re glad to see the back of our ageing gas boiler – the heat pump does a better job, with much lower carbon emissions.”
Lis in East Oxford
“We’re really pleased with our heat pump. Our house used to be freezing and damp, barely liveable for a couple of hours when the central heating came on. Now, we have a consistent, pleasant temperature all day, and the house is transformed into a much more comfortable environment.
Working from home is completely different – no more need for hot water bottles, blankets, or endless cups of hot tea! We’ve set the thermostats to suit each zone, and the experience has been entirely positive. We’ve even removed the gas supply and power the heat pump with our PV panels and renewable grid electricity. We’re very happy with it.” Read the full story
Heather and Paul, Didcot
“Replacing our fossil fuel boiler with a heat pump has transformed the comfort of our home, making it warm and cosy all year round – while drastically reducing our carbon emissions.” Read their full story (or watch the video below).
Trish and Tim, Hook Norton
“We wanted to get off oil and be able to use the electricity from our solar panels more effectively.” Read their full story
Robin in Henley-on-Thames
“We’re very pleased with the heat pump installed in 2023. The design process was carefully engineered, with every room’s heat demand calculated – we even replaced some radiators to ensure optimal performance.
To minimise disruption, we also had an EV charger and electric hob installed, disconnecting fully from the gas network. We’re on a variable price electricity tariff, so with a storage battery, the heat pump runs mostly on half-price electricity, making the return on investment great (and tax-free!). Plus, the app lets us fine-tune the heating far better than our old gas boiler.”
Meg, North Oxford
“An air source heat pump was the obvious choice. We were excited to find it was compatible with a house of this size.” Read the full story
Peter and Maggie in Sandford-on-Thames
“Switching to an Air Source Heat Pump has already made a noticeable difference in reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and keeping the home consistently warm.” Read their full story
Danny in East Oxford
“We love our air source heat pump. Combined with our solar panels and the extra insulation we added (with the help of Cosy Homes Oxfordshire), it has reduced our energy use and carbon emissions by around 60%, saving us hundreds of pounds on our energy bills.
But more than that, we love how our home stays at a constant, comfortable temperature, instead of the ‘boom and bust’ of heat swings you get with a gas boiler. It’s a whole new approach to heating, and it takes a bit of getting used to – but now, we can’t imagine going back to gas.”
