Under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, your household can apply for a voucher to help you switch to a heat pump. However, recent research indicates a lower-than-expected uptake for the scheme so far.

The government aims to give out 30,000 vouchers annually for 3 years but has only managed an uptake of 9,888 between the scheme’s launch in May to December 2022.

Recent estimates put the final vouchers delivered at around half the overall 90,000 available, bringing calls for more to be done to help increase uptake from households.

To apply, you’ll need to:

• Have a property with a maximum installation capacity of up to 45 kilowatt-thermal (kWth), this covers most homes.
• Have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for your home. 
• Your EPC must not have any outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation (unless you have an exemption covering these recommendations).
