Home insulation: how to stop your bills going through the roof
Gas and electricity bills of £2,000-£3,000 a year have motivated many to make their homes more energy efficient without having to deep retrofit.
In April, the UK government will unveil Eco+, a £1bn scheme to help hundreds of thousands of homes, by installing lower-cost measures such as loft and cavity wall insulation with grants of up to £15,000.
The Guardian has put together a focused piece exploring the new scheme and how households can reduce their energy loss and bills.
The scheme will run for three years, and about 70,000 homes are expected to benefit. Unlike the now-defunct Green Homes Grant (see below), the funding of ECO+ will be administered by energy suppliers.
It’s aimed at those not currently eligible for support, particularly those on lower incomes, with the goal of saving consumers about £310 a year.
